Middlefield Board of Selectmen holds Powder Ridge meeting
Mostly, it seems, people are tired of speculating what may or may not be happening on the Ridge, aka Powder Ridge Ski Area. The Middlefield Board of Selectmen (BOS) has been holding an executive session after most regular meetings to discuss ongoing negotiations with Alpine Associates, Inc., the current applicant for buying the property.

The Middlefield selectmen met in the Community Center auditorium on Monday, May 3, with an audience of one. Since the audience was this reporter, “public comment” was non-existent.

Interestingly, the subject of most discussion at the March 15 Board of Selectmen’s meeting in Middlefield concerned minutes of past meetings. Selectman Ed Bailey asked that the clerk be instructed to produce more concise minutes due to the inability of “anyone to remember every last word” (as in the current minute style).

The moment many people have been waiting for is near at hand; on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at Memorial School there will be a public hearing on the town’s proposal to sell the ski area portion of Powder Ridge to Snow Time, Inc. and CDF Associates LLC, whose principal is Dan Frank.

The evening started with a town meeting that lasted all of four minutes – just long enough to inform the very sparse audience that the annual report was not finished. This happens every year.
