Connecticut's five innovative regional children's probate courts bring court staff, local and state agencies, and families together to find a stable, safe environment for children, and ongoing support for families. The Central Connecticut Regional Children’s Probate Court, which is located in Meriden, will celebrate the expansion of those services to six other communities with a dedication ceremony and reception next week. Prior to the new facility’s opening in November, only families from Meriden and Wallingford could take advantage of this regional children’s probate court. It now also serves Cromwell, Durham, East Hampton, Middlefield, Middletown and Portland. Student artists from several of those towns have contributed artwork to grace the court’s walls. The best creations will be honored at the ceremony.

The opening ceremony will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 1501 East Main St. in Meriden. Featured speakers include the Hon. Philip A. Wright, Jr., administrative judge of the Central Connecticut Regional Children’s Probate Court, Superior Court Judge James W. Abrams, speaker of the house Christopher S. Donovan, state comptroller Nancy S. Wyman, state rep. Gail K. Hamm, Middletown Mayor Sebastian Giuliano and Middlesex chief administrative Judge Robert Holzberg. A reception will follow the ceremony, and the judges will be available to speak with members of the media.
